MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris (10-9, 7-4 UMAC) men's basketball team picked up a big 95-75 win over North Central (10-10, 7-4 UMAC) on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Cougars are now in third place in the UMAC with six games to go. The UMAC playoff race is still tight with six teams within four games of each other.
Five Cougars scored in double figures on the day, led by
CD Douglas with 17.
Noah Grove,
Anthony Fisher,
John Haseman and
Joe Roggenbuck all scored in double figures as well.
Minnesota Morris started the game with a 16-2 run, capped off by a three from Haseman. He finished the game with 15 points, one shy of his season high. The lead would grow to 17 halfway through the first half. North Central never got closer than 14 in the first half and Grove hit a three as time expired to give Morris a 48-31 lead. Grove finished the night with 16 points on 5-8 shooting.
UMM outscored the Rams 26-14 in the paint in the first half. Douglas had 12 points in the first half on 6-8 shooting. Morris shot 65.6% in the first half with five made three pointers.
As the second half got underway North Central put on a full court press but Morris did not slow down. The Cougars would extend their lead to as much as 27 with 9:38 left in the game. All ten Cougars that played scored on Saturday night.
Fisher finished the game with 14 points. Roggenbuck had ten points off the bench. Morris was 36-59 from the field in the game. Minnesota Morris would finish the game with 14 second chance points in the game.
Tyler Ukkelberg had six assists to go with six points and five rebounds.
Next week the Cougars head on the road for the first of four road games. The road trip starts with a game against St. Scholastica on Friday night.
