MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (5-8, 3-2 UMAC) dropped their third straight UMAC game for the first time since the 04-05 season, falling 78-69 to St. Scholastica (4-7, 2-3 UMAC). The Cougars shot just 12-51 (23.5%) in the final three quarters of play and it finally caught up with them in the fourth quarter.
Scholastica finished the game with a 42-18 advantage in points in the paint. Morris had 21 points from their bench, led by
Mauren Thiesen who had nine. The game had 25 lead changes and ten ties.
Morris led for a majority of the first quarter thanks to hot shooting from deep. The Cougars finished 6-11 in the first quarter to lead 25-24 after one. It was just as tight in the second quarter but both teams struggled to keep up their scoring pace; each team scored 13 points in the second frame. The teams headed to the locker room with UMM leading 38-37.
Kayla Kraemer hit a three pointer out of the break giving UMM a four point lead. St. Scholastica countered with a 9-2 run to take a small lead. Morris outscored the Saints by five the rest of the quarter and headed to the fourth quarter with a two point lead.
Unfortunately the fourth quarter was not kind to Morris and St. Scholastica took control. The Saints were 8-11 from the field in the fourth quarter to pull away. It started with a 16-8 run for CSS and they would go on to win 78-69.
Elli Stevenson finished with 22 points, leading all Cougars offensively.
Tori Holt had 13 rebounds and seven points for Morris.
Cori Becker added nine points and four assists.
