MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (5-7) did not allow Finlandia to lead all game on the way to an 89-73 win on Friday (2-10) night. Five Cougars scored in double figures, led by
Anthony Fisher, who scored 20 points on a perfect 10-10 shooting.
Jeremy Halverson, getting just his second start of the season, opened the scoring for UMM with a three pointer. He would finish 4-6 from behind the arc and had a career high 14 points. Finlandia tied the game on three occasions in the early going but never led.
A quick 7-0 run capped off by a three from
Noah Grove gave UMM an 18-11 lead. The lead would grow to 11 with 6:31 left and Morris would go into the break with a 43-33 lead.
Fisher finished the first half with 12 points to lead UMM scorers. Marcus Geralds had 20 points to lead Finlandia. UMM shot 51.4% in the first half.
The Lions opened up the second half on an 8-2 run to close to within four points. The UMM lead got as low as two with just under 16 minutes to play. Morris put together a run of their own outscoring the Lions 9-2 and pushing their lead to nine.
Finlandia never recovered and UMM picked up the 16 point win. Morris was clinical in the second half shooting 17-24 (70.8%). Morris picked up 26 points off Finlandia turnovers.
CD Douglas had 19 points on 7-13 shooting.
Noah Grove had 12 points and
Joe Roggenbuck added ten points off the bench.
Minnesota Morris will return to UMAC play tomorrow when they host Northland at 3 p.m.
