MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (6-7, 3-3 UMAC) shot 66.1% on Saturday afternoon in a 104-66 win over Northland (2-12, 2-6 UMAC). The 104 points were the most since February 10, 2010 against Crown when the Cougars also scored 104. Morris scored 104 points twice that season, the other time coming against Martin Luther. The last time UMM scored over 104 was in 2005 against North Central when UMM had 115 points.
The Cougars carried over their hot finish from Friday night into Saturday afternoon by shooting 75.9% in the first half. It marked their second straight half shooting over 70%, the best known consecutive 40 minute shooting performance in school history.
The game started with a 22-7 run by the Cougars with seven different scorers during the run. Northland would never get any closer than 12 the rest of the way. Morris made their first nine shots of the game and continued to shoot well, connecting on 17 of their first 18 attempts.
The Morris lead ballooned to as much as 30 in the first half of play. Defensively Morris held the LumberJacks to 36.1% shooting as they built a 29 point halftime lead.
CD Douglas had 15 points in the first half.
Joe Roggenbuck had 12 points and
Noah Grove added 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play. Northland was held to just three defensive rebounds in the first half.
Roggenbuck put the Cougars up by 31 on the first possession of the second half and the UMM lead would only dip below 30 one time the rest of the game. The lead got as large as 41 and Morris finally slipped under the 70% shooting mark with about 11 minutes left in the game.
Two Cougars finished with at least 20 points, led by Roggenbuck who had 21. Roggenbuck also had 11 rebounds to complete his second double-double of the season. Douglas finished with 20 points on 7-10 shooting.
Dylan Erickson and Grove each finished with 13 points.
After completing the season long four game home stand Morris will travel to Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther next weekend.
