MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (12-13, 9-7 UMAC) made a comeback but could not hold on to the lead late, and Bethany Lutheran (10-15, 8-8 UMAC) picked up an 82-75 win. With the victory the Cougars clinched the four seed in the UMAC Tournament and will host Wisconsin-Superior at 5:30 p.m. on Monday night.
The Vikings used an 8-0 run to take a 19-9 lead midway through the first half. The lead would grow to 16 before Morris pulled within eight, right before half. The Cougars were led by
Tyler Ukkelberg who had ten points at the half. The Vikings gained the advantage in part by outscoring the Cougars 11-4 in second chance points.
Minnesota Morris continued to track down the Vikings early in the second half, cutting the lead to two just 97 seconds into the half.
Noah Grove gave the Cougars their first lead of the second half with 16:40 left in the game. Morris continued to hold the lead, pushing the lead to eight with 12:31 left.
Bethany would get back in the contest with a quick 6-0 run with a pair of free throws. The Cougars would hold the lead but the Vikings were with them step for step. With less than seven minutes to play Bethany Lutheran took a lead at 68-66. Morris would retake the lead at 70-68 but the Vikings finished the game on a 14-5 run to win 82-75.
Four Cougars finished in double figures, led by Ukkelberg with 19. Ukkelberg finished with nine rebounds and four assists as well. Grove and
CD Douglas each had 13 points.
Joe Roggenbuck had ten points and six rebounds.
The Cougars finished the game outscoring the Vikings 36-26 in the paint.
