Softball Drops Two

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Minnesota Morris (0-6) lost twice to open their spring trip. In game one the Cougars fell 9-3 to the College of Brockport. In the second game of the day, Salem State earned a 6-4 comeback win. Brett Hulett had four hits, two in each game. Paige Larson and Autumn Mahoney each had a pair of hits as on the day.

Hulett had a pair of RBI's in the first game of the day but it would not be enough. Her two run double tied the game at two in the top of the third. Unfortunately, Brockport scored twice in the bottom half of the inning. The four run fourth by the Golden Eagled put them up 8-2 and Morris never recovered.

Elli Stevenson put Morris up early against Salem State, singling in Mahoney in the first. After falling behind 2-1 after two complete, the Cougars tied when Mahoney scored on a passed ball in the third. Alex Anderson drove in Meghan Pomeroy with a single to right field. Morris made it 4-2 in the fourth when Anderson scored following a stolen base from Mahoney with runners on first and second.

The lead would not last long because the Vikings tied it up with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Salem State would pick up the win after scoring twice in the sixth thanks to three UMM errors in the inning.
