FORT MYERS, Fla. – Minnesota Morris (0-8) was unable to pick up their first victory of 2016 as they fell to Edgewood (5-8) and Pittsburgh-Bradford. Edgewood earned a 10-5 comeback win in game one. The Cougars could not overcome three early runs in a 5-3 loss to Bradford (4-8).
The Cougars scored three runs in top of the first but could not hold the lead in the game number one. The scoring started with
Lacey Sullivan singling in
Elli Stevenson and
Alex Anderson.
Meghan Pomeroy stole home as Sullivan stole second to give UMM a 3-0 lead.
Edgewood would get back in the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. In the fifth inning Edgewood would score five runs on four hits to open up a 7-3 lead. In the top of the sixth
Paige Larson singled to left field driving in Downie. On the play
Bret Hulett scored via an error by the left fielder.
The Eagles put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the second game of the day a pitching duel broke out early. Through two innings neither team threatened to score. In the top of the third Pitt-Bradford scored three runs on three hits and a Cougar error. In the fifth inning Bradford picked up a fourth run but did leave three on base.
Morris tried to make a run at it in the bottom of the seventh. Hulett doubled to left field driving in both
Autumn Mahoney and Larson. Hulett then scored on a single off the bat of
Emily Nordquist. Unfortunately the rally ended and the Cougars fell.
Larson and Sullivan each had three hits on the day. Sullivan and Hulett each drove in two runs.
Maegan Anderson threw 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run.
