FORT MYERS, Fla. – Minnesota Morris (2-12) ended their spring trip on a high note, winning twice on Saturday. The Cougars won 7-5 in eight innings against the College of Wooster to start the day. In the second game Morris earned an 8-3 victory.
Erin Kvam and
Maegan Anderson earned wins for UMM.
Lacey Sullivan had a grand slam in the five run win over Knox.
Wooster got the scoring started in game one with a couple RBI singles in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the fourth inning Morris took their first lead of the game with three runs on three hits and an error.
Elli Stevenson got the scoring started with an RBI single, driving in
Emily Nordquist.
Meghan Pomeroy was able to drive in two with a single to right, putting Morris up 3-2. Wooster would respond by getting all three runs back in the bottom of the inning.
Morris was staring at a 13
th straight loss when they trailed 5-3 in the final inning of the game. Sullivan started the comeback with a one out single. She would score a play later thanks to an error by the left fielder. Brett Hulett tied the game scoring on a bunt by Nordquist.
In the extra inning Morris scored twice to go up 7-5. Stevenson scored the go-ahead run on Kvam's single to right field. A passed ball would allow pinch runner
Alex Anderson to score later in the inning. Wooster went quietly in the bottom of the eighth inning and Morris earned a two run victory.
Hulett put Morris up 1-0 in the first inning against Wooster with an RBI single. Morris would extend their lead in the fourth inning with three runs. A passed ball and error would help the Cougars take a four run lead.
Knox got three runs back in the top of the sixth inning but Morris still held the lead. Sullivan would put the game away with her grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Morris is back in action on March 24
th with a double header against Macalester College in St. Paul.
