MINNEAPOLIS – For the second straight day the Cougars (0-3) were swept in a non-conference double header, this time falling to Augsburg (1-2). In game one the Cougars fell 3-1 despite seven hits. In the second game Augsburg scored early and often on the way to a 10-2 victory.
Neither team scored during the first four innings of game number one. During that stretch Morris had two hits and left three on base. The Auggies had four hits and left four on. In the bottom of the fifth Augsburg took a 1-0 lead on a one out sac bunt. Morris tried to counter in the sixth loading the bases with one out. Unfortunately a pop fly and ground out ended the threat.
The Augsburg Auggies scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to go up 3-0. In final inning the Cougars scored once thanks to a sac fly off the bat of
Bret Hulett. It wasn't enough and UMM fell by two.
In game two Augsburg went up early scoring three runs in the top of the first. They added at least a run in each of the next three innings to take a 7-0 lead after four innings of play. Minnesota Morris scored a pair of runs in the sixth.
Erin Kvam singled to left with one out and advanced to second on a single by
Emily Nordquist. Hulett drove in Kvam with a single to right center. A fielder's choice by
Lacey Sullivan plated Nordquist.
The Auggies countered with three runs in the top of the seventh to go up 10-2, which is where the game ended.
