ST. PAUL, Minn. – Northwestern (17-19, 11-3 UMAC) was able to snap Minnesota Morris' (8-24, 11-3 UMAC) six game winning streak, beating the Cougars 4-0 and 13-5 on Tuesday. The Cougars were held to just one hit in game one. In the second game the Cougars could not overcome six early runs by the Eagles.
Northwestern picked up an early run in the first inning, taking advantage of a Morris error. The Cougars picked up their lone hit in the third inning but could not get on the board. In the bottom of the inning the Eagles would tack on two runs to take a 3-0 lead. Northwestern scored another run in the fourth inning and Morris never recovered.
The Eagles would score three runs in each of the first and second innings to take a 6-0 lead. In the third inning Morris got on the board.
Autumn Mahoney tripled to center driving in
Alex Anderson.
Bret Hulett made it 2-0 with a RBI single to left. Northwestern quickly responded by matching the Cougars with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
After a scoreless fourth inning Morris cut their deficit to just three with three run homer by
Magen Knickerbocker. The attempted comeback was derailed after the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth. The game would end after Northwestern scored a 13
th run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Cougars will try to get back in the win column this Friday with games at Wisconsin-Superior.
