MORRIS, Minn. - After a weekend away, the Minnesota Morris women's basketball team returned to Jim Gremmels Court Friday for a UMAC matchup with Northland and the Cougars outscored the Lumberjills in every quarter on their way to an 82-59 win.
The Cougars trailed early, but
Mauren Thiesen's back-to-back 3s ended a 10-2 run that gave them a 15-7 lead. The edge would later get to 10 before Northland cut it to 23-17 by quarter's end.
Minnesota Morris' lead grew to 16 on multiple occasions, the first of which came on another Thiesen 3. Northland ended the half on a mini-run to cut the deficit to 43-32 at the break.
In the third, after Northland cut it to single-digits,
Bailey Miller's lay-in 3:37 into the quarter put the lead back up to 11 at 47-36 and their lead would stay in double-digits the rest of the way.
Sophomore point guard
Elli Stevenson led three Cougars in double figures with a season-high 20 points. The post duo of
Kendra Raths and
Abby Van Kempen each collected a double-double with Raths scoring 13 and grabbing 11 boards while Van Kempen scored 16 points and pulled down 17 rebounds.
