MORRIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris women's basketball team claimed their ninth straight home decision and are now winners of 12 of their last 13 games following an 86-59 win Saturday over Finlandia at Jim Gremmels Court in non-conference action.
For the second straight game,
Elli Stevenson led the way with 20 points. Also for the second straight day, the post duo of
Kendra Raths and
Abby Van Kempen each posted double-double games with Raths scoring 11 and grabbing 15 boards and Van Kempen totaling 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Cougars took advantage of a clear height advantage by outrebounding the Lions 53-31 and held a 34-8 edge in points in the paint. Raths and Van Kempen each swatted away three Finlandia shots.
Despite the clear edge inside, Minnesota Morris was getting a good effort Finlandia and led by only four late in the third quarter before outscoring the Lions 15-6 in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 56-43 lead into the game's final 10 minutes.
The lead would continue to grow in the fourth and got over 20 points for the first time following a Stevenson 3 late in the game.
Minnesota Morris (12-5) concludes the homestand Monday against Mayville State at 5:30 p.m.
