MORRIS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris shot 57 percent from the floor in the second half to break open a tie game at the half and downed Finlandia 96-78 Saturday in non-conference men's basketball play at Jim Gremmels Court.
After exchanging baskets to start the second half, made field goals from
CD Douglas and
John Haseman gave the Cougars a 51-48 lead and that advantage would grow the remainder of the game. Later, with the Lions within 1, a Cougars 15-5 spurt gave them their first double-digit lead of the contest at 68-57.
Noah Grove started the run with a 3 and
Jeremy Halverson later delivered back-to-back 3s. Halverson added another 3 that extended the lead to 15 at 77-62 with 5:55 left. Grove's 3 up the Cougars up 16 with 2:31 remaining that iced the game.
Douglas and Grove had identical 20-point, 4-rebound efforts, with Douglas adding six assists. Grove was 6-for-11 from 3-point range. Halverson drained five 3s on his way to 19 points. He also had seven blocks to add to his UMAC-leading total of 32. Haseman added 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor.
Tyler Ukkelberg had a rare double-double that did not involve points as he grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 11 assists.
Minnesota Morris (9-8) hosts Mayville State Monday night to conclude the three-game homestand.
