MORRIS, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris softball team hosted a UMAC doubleheader Thursday against Bethany Lutheran College and it was the Vikings who came away with a doubleheader sweep by scores of 7-1 and 6-1.
In the first game, the Cougars plated their run in the first.
Gina Downie led off the frame with a double to center. Three batters later, she scored on a
Bret Hulett single to left.
Bethany scored multiple runs in the first, second, and seventh and a single run in the third to get the six-run win. Anna Pipenhagen went the distance to get the win, striking out seven.
Pipenhagen got the complete game also in the second game while allowing four hits.
The Cougars got their run in the fifth.
Megan Knickerbocker and
Emily Nordquist started the frame with singles. Later, with two outs,
Becca Holland bunt singled to load the bases then Knickerbocker would score on a passed ball.
Minnesota Morris (4-24, 0-8 in UMAC) returns to play Monday at Martin Luther for a non-conference doubleheader.
