NEW ULM, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris softball team put an end to a losing streak Monday by taking the first game of a non-conference doubleheader at Martin Luther.
Cougar pitchers
Elli Stevenson and
Madison Langrehr combined to allow only four hits through seven innings with Stevenson going four innings to collect the win and Langrehr pitching the final three to record the save in the 4-1 win.
Becca Holland drove in the Cougars' first run with a second inning single to score
Megan Knickerbocker who led off the inning with a double.
The Cougars took the lead at 2-1 on a
Kallie Wycoff sacrifice fly in the third. They extended the lead to 4-1 in the fourth.
Gina Downie hit a one-out double. Two batters later,
Lacey Sullivan brought her home with an RBI single. After
Bret Hulett reached on a single, Knickerbocker drove in Sullivan with an RBI base hit.
Minnesota Morris smacked 15 hits in the opener with Sullivan and Knickerbocker collecting three hits each. Downie, Wycoff, and
Emily Nordquist had two hits apiece.
Martin Luther took the second game, 13-9.
Minnesota Morris (5-25) takes on Martin Luther again Wednesday in Morris for games that will count toward the conference standings.
