ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Morris brought a three-game win streak into St. Paul for a date with Northwestern Wednesday night, but the Eagles would put an end to the streak prevailing on their home court, 80-70, in UMAC men's basketball action.
The Cougars fell into a quick hole as the Eagles scored the game's first six points and led 14-6 four minutes in. That deficit would not last long for the Cougars as a
Noah Grove 3 started a 20-4 UMM run that would see the Cougars take a 26-18 edge. A
CD Douglas jumper and free throw gave the Cougars their first lead. A
Nick Peterson 3 and two more Douglas jumpers ended the spurt. Douglas scored 17 first half points on 8-for-10 shooting in the first half.
Northwestern answered the Cougars' run with a 12-2 of their own to take a 35-33 lead. The Eagles continued to outscore the Cougars throughout the remainder of the first and took a 44-39 lead into the locker room.
Northwestern continued their hot shooting and took a double-digit four minutes into the second half. The Cougars pulled within seven on two occasions as that was the closest they would get.
Douglas led all scorers with 28 points. Grove added 17.
Minnesota Morris (7-9, 6-2 in UMAC) returns home to face UW-Superior Saturday at 3 p.m.
