MORRIS, Minn. -
Noah Grove entered Wednesday night's game against Martin Luther 23 points shy of becoming the eighth player in program history to reach the 1,000 career points plateau. Late in the contest, the local product reached his 23rd point on a driving layup to achieve the milestone in the Cougars 100-64 win in UMAC men's basketball action at Jim Gremmels Court.
Grove scored 14 off his 23 points in the first half as he went 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Grove stood at 17 points with under six minutes remaining. A lay-in at 5:21 put him at 19 points, another lay-in a minute later put him two shy, then his final layup with 2:52 remaining put his career scoring figure in quadruple digits in front of the home of the crowd.
It was a great all-around night for Grove as he added six rebounds, six assists, and three steals to his stat-line.
It was also a great night for the Cougars team. After scoring a season-low total in their last game, UMM shot 60 percent from the floor and assisted on 24 of their 33 made shots. They shot 55 percent from 3-point range as six Cougars scored in double figures, led by Grove's 23.
Jeremy Halverson drained 5 3s on his way to 19 points.
Jeffrey Halverson scored all 13 of his points in the first half on 5-for-7 shooting.
CD Douglas and
Trent Jerome each scored 11 and
Nick Peterson added 10.
Minnesota Morris (10-12, 8-5 in UMAC) heads to Minneapolis Saturday for a game at North Central.
