MORRIS, Minn. - Junior forward
Kendra Raths only reached double figures in one statistical category Wednesday night against Martin Luther, but she was close to reaching double-digits in three more areas as her career-high 27-point effort helped give Minnesota Morris a 74-59 win in UMAC women's basketball action at Jim Gremmels Court.
Not only was Raths scoring, she was crashing the boards, dishing out the assists, swatting away shots, and preventing the Knights from completing their passes. The Sartell native recorded nine rebounds, seven assists, six blocks, and three steals as UMM recorded their fifth straight victory.
Minnesota Morris trailed Martin Luther late in the first quarter, but a 5-0 run gave them a 19-15 lead going into the second quarter.
A Raths lay-in seconds in the second quarter gave UMM a six-point edge.
Zoe Loucks stopped an MLC five-point spurt with a 3 which started a 13-2 Cougar run. Raths and
Emma Atkinson added 3s and
Elli Stevenson hit two layups just seconds apart from each other to help give the Cougars their first double-digit lead at 34-22. The lead would continue to grow to 19 at 44-25 by halftime.
The Cougar lead would remain in double figures throughout the second half.
Abby Van Kempen tied a career-high with 17 rebounds and she equaled Raths' total of six blocked shots.
Bailey Miller scored 11 and Stevenson scored seven while dishing out seven assists.
Minnesota Morris (10-12, 9-4 in UMAC) travels to face North Central Saturday in Minneapolis.
