MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - With winter weather going on outside, the Minnesota Morris 2018 baseball season started indoors Monday morning at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis against Macalester. The Cougars dropped a pair to the Scots by scores of 9-4 and 15-3.
The opener started out as a pitchers' duel.
Sam Melchior struck out four through the first three innings as held Macalester scoreless. The Cougars broke through first with a run in the third.
Nash Kramer started the frame with a single through the left side then was sacrificed to second on a Mac O'Neil bunt. Two batters later, Kramer would come across following a throwing error.
Macalester would get on the board in the fourth following a 2-RBI double. They added three in the sixth and four in the ninth before the Cougars scored three in their half of the seventh to give the game's its final score.
Blake Haugen delivered a 2-RBI double in the frame and
Tyler Rowland added an RBI single.
Melchior struck out seven in five-plus innings of work.
In the second game,
Thomas Eckstein,
Brady Jergenson, and
Mac Brink came through with hits.
Minnesota Morris (0-2) is off to Florida for their next games, beginning next Monday.
