MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris scored three runs over the final three innings, but came up a run short, 5-4, against Augsburg Friday evening in non-conference baseball action.
The Cougars trailed 5-1 going into the seventh inning where they cut the Auggie lead in half by scoring a pair of runs.
Mitch Baumann,
Mack O'Neil, and
Nash Kramer all singled to lead off the frame and load the bases.
Tyler Rowland drew a walk to bring in a run then
Zach Kuefler brought in another with a sacrifice fly.
In the eighth, the first three batters again reached base safely to start the inning.
Thomas Eckstein hit an RBI single to left to score
Bryce Jergenson and cut Augsburg's lead to 5-4. The Auggies were able to hold the Cougars from there to preserve the win.
Eckstein went 2-for-4 with a double. Kramer had a pair of hits.
Kyle Hastings,
Colin Lindgren, and
Brady Jergenson combined to pitch 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Minnesota Morris (9-22) travels north to wrap up regular season play with a conference doubleheader Saturday at UW-Superior.
