Football team opens up conference play on the road

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Minnesota Morris football team played in their third different state in as many weeks Saturday as they opened up UMAC play at MacMurray. The Highlanders scored in every quarter en route to a 41-0 win over the Cougars.

MacMurray drove 60 yards on nine plays on their second drive of the game to start the scoring. Nathan Randall found Devonta Preston for a 21-yard touchdown. Randall tossed three touchdown passes on the day and threw for 325 yards. Preston added a 56-yard touchdown run late in the first half. Five different Highlanders reached the end zone.

On MacMurray's next drive after their initial touchdown, the Cougar defense came up with a big play. Calvin Pearce intercepted a Randall pass at the MacMurray 33. MacMurray's defense though were able to keep the Cougars from scoring and held on a fourth-down attempt.

The Cougar offense put together a pair of 10+ play drives in the second drive. In the fourth quarter they reached the Highlander 2-yard line before being stopped on a fourth-down try.

UMM set season highs in total yards (81 rushing, 143 passing). Justin Masloski threw for 118 yards and rushed for 64. Blake Weimer caught 10 passes for 46 yards and Branden Carlson had five receptions for 51 yards. Nathan Sheridan added seven receptions for 36 yards.
