Cougar women fall on road in conference opener

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - After playing four non-conference games to start the season, the Minnesota Morris women's soccer team opened up the conference portion of their schedule Saturday on the road in Minneapolis to face North Central. The Rams broke a tie with a goal in the 79th minute to take a 2-1 win from the Cougars.

Payton Swoboda gave North Central a very early advantage as she scored in the first minute. UMM goalkeeper Megan Tschida did a great job after the early shakeup as she stopped four shots with one team save to keep the Rams off the scoreboard over the remaining 44 minutes of the first half.

The Cougars were able to tie the game before halftime as Yu Ito connected on her first goal of the season in the 37th minute off a pass from Brooke Lorentz.

It remained 1-1 until the 79th minute when Swoboda connected again for the Rams to give them the 2-1 advantage. Lorentz had a chance for the equalizer in the 86th minute, but her shot went wide.

Minnesota Morris (0-5, 0-1 in UMAC) stays on the road for their next contest Tuesday at Martin Luther.
