MORRIS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris broke open a one-goal game at halftime by collecting three second half goals in gaining a 4-0 shutout win over Crown Wednesday in UMAC women's soccer action at the Cougar Soccer Field.
The game appeared to be going into halftime with a scoreless tie. In the final minute of the half, Crown was called for a hand ball in the box which awarded a penalty kick for the Cougars. Senior
Yu Ito walked up to the ball and delivered a strike in the lower right corner of the net to give UMM a 1-0 going into the break.
The Cougars pummeled the Crown goalkeeper with shot after shot in both halves. They held a 26-2 shot advantage in the first half and 19-3 shot edge in the second.
Three of UMM's shots in the second half reached the back of the net.
Grace Penke was first up as she took a nice header pass from
Shannon Young directly to her right foot and delivered in the right side of the net for a 2-0 lead in the 60th minute. Seven minutes later, Ito scored again off a nice feed in front from
Megan Ellingboe for a 3-0 lead. In the final minutes, the Cougars connected on another penalty kick, this time with
Hannah Pedderson doing the honors to close out the scoring.
Bailey Tschida made three saves in net for the Cougars.
Minnesota Morris (2-6, 2-2 in UMAC) remains at home to face North Central Saturday at 2 p.m.
