MORRIS, Minn. - Minnesota Morris used the momentum from Tuesday's night win into a pair of sweeps Wednesday in wins over St. Scholastica and North Central as part of a UMAC volleyball triangular at the UMM PE Center.
Against St. Scholastica, the Cougars trailed 17-15 in the opening set before using a three-point spurt to take an 18-17 lead. The Saints would tie the set at 19 before the Cougars rattled off six straight to claim the opener 25-19.
Tori Everson,
Brenna Tinjum, and
Mia Frick all delivered kills to close off the set.
The Cougars fell behind again in the second set as the Saints jumped out to a 9-3 lead. That was quickly evaporated by a Cougar 7-0 run.
Rachel Mathias started and ended the spurt with kills. After CSS tied it at 10, the Cougars went on a 5-0 run to take control of the frame. Everson delivered a kill and a service ace as part of a 3-0 stretch at the end that gave UMM a 25-18 set win.
The third set was different as the Cougars gain an early edge and never relinquished in claiming a 25-19 set and match win.
Morgan Miller smashed back-to-back kills to close it out.
Everson led with 13 kills.
Layne Herrmann totaled 34 assists and
Alyssa Ukestad led with 10 digs.
The Cougars made quick work of the Rams with a straight sets 25-10, 25-6, 25-21 win. The Cougars trailed 21-19 in the third set before closing out the match with six straight points. Everson delivered three kills in the stretch.
Minnesota Morris (11-8, 6-2 in UMAC) remains at home to face Bethany Lutheran Saturday at 3 p.m. at the PE Center.
