MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UMN Morris volleyball team (15-11) closed out its regular season slate with a five-set (14-25, 27-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-12) victory at UW-Stout (19-11) Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The score remained close in the opening set at 13-10 in favor of the Blue Devils, but UW-Stout closed out the set with a 12-4 run.
- After the Cougars rattled off a 9-1 run to open the second set, the Blue Devils chipped away at the lead and eventually tied things up at 17-17. The Blue Devils ended up leading 24-23, but the Cougars forced the set to extra points and finished with a 27-25 decision.
- The third set opened up with the two teams keeping things within one point of each other until the Cougars built an 18-11 lead over the Blue Devils. UMN Morris was able to tally a 25-19 victory in the third set.
- The Blue Devils then forced a decisive fifth set after posting a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.
- With the fifth set tied at 12-12, the Cougars scored three-straight points to secure the match victory.
