MORRIS, Minn. – Sophomore Lexus Eagle Chasing scored 21 points to help the UMN Morris women's basketball team (1-1) past Macalester (0-1), 83-69, in its home opener Tuesday night at the Cougar Sports Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars capitalized on points off turnovers early with a 9-2 margin to take an 18-11 lead into the second quarter.
- UMN Morris continued the trend in the second quarter with a 13-3 points off turnovers margin over the Scots. After the first 20 minutes of play in the books, the Cougars led the Scots, 38-26.
- The two offenses picked up the pace in the third quarter with UMN Morris outscoring Macalester 26-22 to take a 64-46 lead into the final stanza.
- The Scots outscored the Cougars 23-19 in the final frame, but it wouldn't be enough as UMN Morris captured an 83-69 victory.
NOTABLES
- The Cougar bench outscored the Macalester bench, 32-11.
- Four Cougars scored at least 11 points with Eagle Chasing leading the way with 21. Along with Eagle Chasing, Mia Wassink and Jadyn Sondrol each tallied 12 points, while Abby Van Kempen had 11 points.
- Eagle Chasing and Wassink each recorded seven rebounds.
- Freshman Jay Kwateh led the Cougars in steals with five.
- The Cougars were 9-of-18 from 3-point range, which included a 5-of-7 outing from Eagle Chasing.
