WAVERLY, Iowa – The Minnesota Morris men's basketball team (1-2) dropped a 94-90 decision to Cornell College (2-1) at the Wartburg Classic Friday evening. A balanced attack led Minnesota Morris as five Cougars scored at least 12 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Nick Peterson layup 2:18 into the game capped off an 8-1 run for the Cougars to open things up.
- After the Rams tied the game at 10-10 with 15:57 left in the opening half, the Cougars built a 30-17 lead with 11:43 remaining.
- The Rams then responded with a run of their own to tie the game at 33-all with 6:17 to go in the opening stanza.
- The two teams continued to battle down the stretch with the Rams taking a 47-44 lead into halftime.
- With 17:03 to play in regulation, a Kenneth Riley layup gave the Cougars their first lead of the second half at 56-54.
- The Cougars then extended their lead to eight points at 67-59 on a Jaret Johnson 3-pointer with 11:12 to play in regulation.
- A pair of Dillon Haider free throws tied the game at 86-all with 1:33 left in regulation, but the Rams outscored the Cougars, 8-4, down the stretch to secure the 94-90 victory.

- Haider led the Cougars with 17 points. Along with Haider, Peterson had 15 points, Ian Carlin scored 14 points, Johnson had 13 points, and James Pendleton scored 12 points.
- Riley led the Cougars with four steals.
- Haider and Riley led the Cougars with four assists apiece.
- Carlin led Minnesota Morris in rebounds with seven.
- The Cougars were 6-of-12 from 3-point range in the second half.
