WAVERLY, Iowa – The UMN Morris men's basketball team (1-3) was edged by Iowa Wesleyan (2-2), 84-83, Saturday at the Wartburg Classic. Dillon Haider led the Cougars on the afternoon with a 19-point outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 10-3 early in the first half, the Cougars went on a 28-6 run to take a 31-16 lead with 5:44 left in the opening half.
- The Tigers responded to the Cougar run as they were able to cut the deficit to 39-38 going into halftime.
- The two teams continued to go back-and-forth throughout the second half as there were 22 lead changes over the final 20 minutes of play.
- With 57 seconds left in regulation, a James Pendleton layup put the Cougars in front, 83-79.
- Trailing by four with under a minute to play, the Tigers responded with a 3-pointer with 46 seconds to go and then Alberto Torres made a layup with nine seconds left to put the Tigers up 84-83.
NOTABLES
- Along with Haider's 19 points, Ian Carlin had 11 points and Pendleton scored 10 points.
- The Cougar bench outscored the Tiger bench, 31-8.
- Trent Jerome led the Cougars with six rebounds and three assists.
