MORRIS, Minn. – Senior Mia Wassink scored a season-high 18 points and three other Cougars scored at least 10 points as the UMN Morris women's basketball team (2-3) defeated Presentation (1-6), 71-62, Tuesday night at the Cougar Sports Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the two teams traded baskets early on, the Cougars held a 20-14 lead with 2:53 to play in the first quarter, but Presentation was able to cut the lead to one heading into the second quarter.
- The second quarter saw the two teams continue to keep the game close as there were five lead changes during the final 2:38 of play. With the first 20 minutes in the books, the Cougars led the Saints, 34-33.
- With 7:06 to play in the third quarter, the Cougars went on a 10-1 run over a five-minute stretch to take a 50-40 lead over the Saints.
- During the fourth quarter, the Cougars went on another 10-1 run as they took a 70-53 lead with 3:15 to play in regulation.
NOTABLES
- Along with her 18 points, Wassink secured eight rebounds.
- Van Kempen led the Cougars with nine rebounds. She also had three blocks and four steals.
- The Cougars were 13-of-14 from the free throw line in the second half, and 20-of-24 overall.
- UMN Morris secured a season-high 46 rebounds and blocked a season-high nine shots.
