MORRIS, Minn. – Mayville State (7-2) outscored the Minnesota Morris men's basketball team (2-5) by 13 points in the second-half en route to an 81-75 victory Tuesday night at the Cougar Sports Center. Freshman Jaret Johnson scored a career-high 23 points on the evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars opened up the game with a 9-2 run over the first 1:56 of play.
- The Comets then responded with a 13-5 run to take a 15-14 lead with 13:34 to go in the first half.
- Trailing 28-27 with 8:20 to go in the first half, the Cougars outscored the Comets 16-8 run to take a 43-36 lead over the Comets into halftime.
- UMN Morris held an 11-point lead at 53-42 with 16:43 to play in regulation, but the Comets chipped away at the lead and took a 61-58 lead with 11:11 to go in the second half.
- The Cougars were able to tie the game twice down the stretch, but were never able to take the lead.
- Following a Dillon Haider free throw to make it 76-75 in favor of the Comets with 1:19 to play, Mayville State closed out the game with a 5-0 run.
NOTABLES
- Along with his career-best 23 points, Johnson tallied six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
- Haider was 5-of-13 from the 3-point line, and finished the night with 18 points.
- The Cougars were 8-of-14 from the 3-point line in the first-half.
