Softball Drops Two Games Monday

Cougars fall to Brockport, 3-1, and Knox, 6-1

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team (6-2) dropped a pair of games Monday. The Cougars were bested by Brockport (6-2), 3-1, and Knox (3-9), 6-3, to open their 2019 spring break trip.

Game One Recap
Minnesota Morris struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Brockport as Kallie Wycoff singled to left field to bring home Megan Knickerbocker from second base.

The Cougars held the 1-0 lead until the fifth inning when Meghan Cullen singled to center field to bring home Alexis Ross from second base. Brockport then took a 2-1 lead when Jessica Koneski hit a solo homer. The seventh inning saw Brockport get an insurance run as Tori Thuman scored on an error from third.

Freshman Grace Penke pitched 6.2 innings, struck out two, recorded one walk and allowed seven hits for the Cougars.

Game Two Recap
After allowing a pair of runs in the first inning, the Cougars responded with a pair of runs of their own in the third inning to tie things up at 2-2. For the Cougars in the third, Marissa Allen hit a sac fly to right field to score Megan Knickerbocker and Paige Dahlberg.

Knox then added a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead at 6-2. The Cougars then cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Becca Holland scored from first base on an error.

Freshman Mollie Dummer went the distance for Cougars, striking out six and walking a pair.

Minnesota Morris is back in action on Tuesday, March 19, with a pair of games starting at 9 a.m. (EDT). The Cougars will play conference foe Crown at 9 a.m. (EDT) before taking on Brockport at 1 p.m. (EDT).
