Duluth, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris softball team (13-15, 4-6 UMAC) lost a doubleheader to St. Scholastica (12-12, 4-2 UMAC) at Saints Field. After waiting an hour and a half for the crew to get the field ready the Cougars dropped the first game 9-0, and the second game 1-6.
Game One Recap
The first run of the game came in the first for the Saints. The Cougars defense would hold the Saints to just 2 hits through the third inning but failed to get their offense going. The Saints would tally 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth and after three straight outs in the top of the fifth for the Cougars the game would end 9-0.
Game Two Recap
The Cougars would fall behind early watching the Saints score in three straight innings two in the second, one in the third, and three in the fourth. The first hits of the day would come in the third inning as the Cougars tried to get something going. The defense again held the Saints scoreless after the fourth but they failed to get any offense going until the sixth inning when they would get on the score sheet started by
Kallie Wycoff single to center field.
Michelle O'Rourke would drive Wycoff in on a double to left field. That would be the lone run of the game for the Cougars as the Saints would close out the seventh inning for a 6-1 win.
The Cougars will look to break a three game skid tomorrow Sunday, April 14, in Ashland, Wisconsin in a UMAC doubleheader showdown with the Lumberjills of Northland College. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
