MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris (15-17, 6-8 UMAC) dropped a pair of five-inning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games to the Northwestern Eagles (20-14, 9-5 UMAC) Tuesday. The Eagles won 9-0 in the opener and then 12-3 in the finale. Despite the two losses, the Cougars clinched a berth in the 2019 UMAC Tournament.
Game One Recap
The Eagles scored twice in the first inning, once in the second, once in the fourth and five times in the fifth inning to secure the 9-0 victory.
Game Two Recap
Northwestern struck early in the second game with four runs in the first inning. The Eagles then scored twice in the second and six times in the third.
Trailing 12-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars got on the board with three runs. For the Cougars in the fifth, Marissa Allen singled up the middle to score Megan Knickerbocker, Michelle O'Rourke then doubled to left field to score Lacey Sullivan. Minnesota Morris picked up its final run on a sacrifice fly from Emily Nordquist.
The Cougars host Concordia College on Thursday, April 25, for their final non-conference matchup of the 2019 regular season. The Cougars and Cobbers will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
