MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team (16-18) split its final non-conference series of the 2019 regular season Thursday against Concordia-Moorhead (9-25). The Cobbers took the opener 11-1 in five innings, before the Cougars won the finale, 8-0.
Game One Recap (11-1 Concordia-Moorhead - Five Innings)
Concordia set the tone from the start with four runs in the top of the first inning. The Cobbers then scored twice in the second then three times in the fourth and then twice in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Becca Holland scored on a wild pitch to get the Cougars on the board.
Game Two Recap (8-0 Minnesota Morris - Five Innings)
After a scoreless inning and a half of play, the Cougars struck first with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. For the Cougars in the second, Lydia Mann singled to score Michelle O'Rourke for the first run of the game. One batter later, Jasmine Jensen doubled to score Mann. Later in the inning, Jensen scored on an infield error.
Kallie Wycoff capped off the five-run inning for the Maroon & Gold with a two-run single to score Megan Knickerbocker and Holland.
The fourth inning saw the Cougars pick up three runs on four hits. In the fourth inning, Marissa Allen doubled to score Wycoff then O'Rourke singled to left to score Allison Pohlmann, who was pinch running for Allen. Two batters later, O'Rourke scored on a wild pitch.
On the mound for the Cougars, freshman Mollie Dummer struck out six batters, allowed just three hits for the complete game shutout victory.
The Cougars close out the 2019 regular season on Friday, April 26, against Wisconsin-Superior in a doubleheader. Friday will be Senior Day for the Cougars, with the first game set for 3:30 p.m. at Cougar Softball Park.
