ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team (2-7) dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Bethel Tournament. The Cougars fell to UW-Stevens Point (9-2) in five sets (24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-6) before St. Norbert (7-4) swept the Cougars (25-21, 25-16, 26-24).
HOW IT HAPPENED – UW-Stevens Point, 3-1
- After trailing 23-16 in the first set, the Cougars rallied back for a 26-24 victory to open up the evening.
- Leading 24-21 in the second set, UMN Morris held off UW-Stevens Point late to secure the 25-23 win.
- With the score tied at 21-21 in the third set, UW-Stevens Point used a late surge to tally a 25-22 victory over the Cougars.
- The Pointers scored four of the last five points in the fourth set to record a 25-21 win and tie the match at two sets apiece.
- The fifth set proved to be all UW-Stevens Point as the Pointers picked up a 15-6 win to secure the match victory at 3-2.
NOTABLES
- Tori Everson tallied a season-high 15 kills to pace the Cougars.
- Layne Herrmann recorded a 50-assist outing on the evening to lead the Cougars.
- Five Cougars tallied an ace.
HOW IT HAPPENED – St. Norbert, 3-0
- St. Norbert used a 25-21 victory in the first set to take a 1-0 lead over the Cougars.
- The Green Knights jumped out to a 12-3 lead and never looked back en route to a 25-16 win in set two.
- The Cougars held a 24-22 lead over the Green Knights in the third set, but the St. Norbert battled back and completed the sweep with a 26-24 win in set three.
NOTABLES
- The Cougars tallied six aces in the match.
