STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Minnesota Morris volleyball team (6-8) defeated Buena Vista (3-10) in four sets (26-24, 28-26, 24-26, 25-17) Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars were on the verge of winning the first set at 24-22, but then Buena Vista tied things up at 24-24. With the score tied at 24-24, Tori Everson and Brenna Tinjum tallied back-to-back kills to secure the 26-24 first set win.
- In the second set the Cougars led 23-19, but Buena Vista scored five-straight points to take a 24-23 lead. The two teams then exchanged points as UMN Morris tied the second set at 26-26. With the score tied at 26-26, a pair of attack errors from Buena Vista gave the Cougars a 28-26 set two victory.
- A late rally got the Cougars back in the mix in the third set as they scored six-straight points to tie things up at 24-24. The Beavers were able to hold off the Cougars and they scored a pair of points to take the third set, 26-24.
- The Cougars built an early 9-4 lead and never looked back as they posted a 25-17 victory in set four to take the match, 3-1.
NOTABLES
- Brenna Tinjum recorded career-best 22 kills to lead both teams.
- Four Cougars tallied an ace, which included two from Tinjum.
- Freshman Kennedy Geller tied for a game-high in blocks with three.
- Layne Herrmann led both teams with a season-best 55 assists.
- Tori Everson and Alyssa Ukestad led the Cougars with 27 digs apiece, which is a career-best outing for Everson.

The Cougars are set to host St. Scholastica and St. Olaf on Saturday, Sept. 28, inside the Cougar Sports Center at noon and 4 p.m., respectively.
