MORRIS, Minn. – Lexus Eagle Chasing scored the first two points of the game for the UMN Morris women's basketball team (8-5, 4-1 UMAC) and the Cougars never relinquished the lead en route to an 85-68 win over St. Scholastica (5-9, 3-3 UMAC) Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Sports Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Eagle Chasing netted a pair of free throws 27 seconds into the game to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
- The Cougars then built their early lead to 11-2 with 7:33 remaining in the first quarter.
- With 2:32 left in the first quarter, Karli Skog made a pair of free throws to cut the Cougar lead to 16-15.
- Freshman Haley Wollschlager capped off the first quarter with a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Cougars a 25-15 lead.
- During the second quarter, the Cougars led the Saints by double-digits for the entire time. In the closing seconds of the second quarter, freshman Jadyn Sondrol made a layup to make it 47-30 heading into halftime.
- Scholastica outscored the Cougars 19-17 in the third quarter, but the Cougars held a 64-49 lead over the Saints with 10 minutes to play in the game.
- The Cougars capped off the game outscoring the Saints 21-19 in the fourth quarter en route to the 85-68 victory.
NOTABLES
- Mia Wassink led the Cougars with 20 points – her third game scoring at least 20 points this season. Along with her 20 points, Wassink secured eight rebounds.
- Abby Van Kempen tallied her second double-double of the season (15 points & 12 rebounds).
- Wollschlager finished the game with 11 points.
- The Cougars shot 92.3 from the free throw line (24-for-26).
- The second quarter saw the Cougars go a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
