MORRIS, Minn. – Kenlie Pytleski hit a go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, 3-pointer with 12 seconds left in regulation to put the Bethany Lutheran Vikings (15-2, 8-1 UMAC) in front of the UMN Morris women's basketball team (9-8, 5-4 UMAC), 60-59, Saturday at the Cougar Sports Center. Mia Wassink led the Cougars with 14 points on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars set the tone early in the game, as they were 11-for-15 from the field in the first quarter.
- With the first 10 minutes of play in the books, the Cougars held a 26-13 lead over the Vikings.
- UMN Morris continued to find success from the field in the second quarter as the Cougars held a 41-20 lead over the Vikings with 1:42 left in the first half.
- After two quarters of action, the Cougars were in front of the Vikings by a score of 41-22.
- Similar to the Cougars' success in the first quarter, the Vikings found their stride in the third quarter as they outscored UMN Morris by a tally of 26 to 11. With one quarter to go, UMN Morris led Bethany Lutheran, 52-48.
- Midway through the fourth quarter, Abby Olson scored on a layup to tie the game at 54-all.
- Abby Van Kempen then put the Cougars up four on a jumper at 59-55 with 2:19 to go, but two made free throws later and then Pytleski's 3-pointer, the Vikings were up 60-59 with 12 seconds remaining.
- Jadyn Sondrol looked to add to her career-best outing, and the win, but her shot at the buzzer was no good.
NOTABLES
- Freshman Sondrol scored a career-best 13 points.
- Lexus Eagle Chasing was one point shy of her third double-double of the season (nine points & 11 rebounds).
- Abby Van Kempen finished the game with nine points. She is now nine points shy of 1,000 career points.
