MANKATO, Minn. – The UMN Morris women's basketball team (7-5, 3-1 UMAC) was edged by Bethany Lutheran (10-2, 3-1 UMAC), 69-66, Wednesday. Three Cougars reached double-figures on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars opened the game with an 8-2 run, but after the first quarter the UMN Morris led Bethany Lutheran, 12-11.
- With 2:14 remaining in the first half, UMN Morris built a 13-point lead at 37-24 on a 3-pointer from Lexie Winter. After 20 minutes of play the Cougars led the Vikings, 37-29.
- The Vikings opened up the third quarter with 9-0 run to take a 38-37 lead over the Cougars.
- After Jay Kwateh made it a 48-46 game in favor of the Cougars with 2:14 remaining in the third quarter, Bethany Lutheran took a 49-48 lead into the fourth quarter.
- Trailing by eight points with 1:13 to play in the fourth quarter, the Cougars were able to make it a 66-63 contest as Lexus Eagle Chasing connected on a basket with 18 seconds to go.
- After Bethany Lutheran made three of its final four free throws, Haley Wollschlager connected on a 3-pointer but it wouldn't be enough as Bethany Lutheran secured the win.
NOTABLES
- Mia Wassink scored 12 points to lead the Cougars. Wassink has scored in double-figures in all 12 games this season.
