DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica (13-11, 10-5 UMAC) used a strong second-half to pull away from the UMN Morris men's basketball team (7-16, 3-11 UMAC) en route to an 85-63 victory Saturday afternoon. Dillon Haider and Trent Jerome each tallied 11 points to lead the Cougar offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 15-8 five minutes into the game, Corbyn Alexander capped off a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer to give the Cougars an 18-15 lead with 13:38 left in the opening half.
- After St. Scholastica tied things up at 18-all, the Saints were able to take an 11-point lead over the Cougars with 6:58 to go in the first-half.
- With 31 seconds remaining in the opening half, Camden Talley hit a 3-pointer to make it a 45-40 contest in favor of St. Scholastica heading into halftime.
- The Saints then opened up the second-half with a 6-0 run to build their lead to 11.
- A James Pendleton layup brought the Cougars within seven at 51-44, but St. Scholastica then used an 8-0 run to build their lead to 15 points.
- After the Pendleton layup, the Cougars wouldn't get any closer than seven points as St. Scholastica pulled away down the stretch to secure the 85-63 victory.
NOTABLES
- Haider went 3-for-6 from 3-point range, which ties the single-season school record for 3-pointers made (72 - Eric Dalbey – 2007-08).
- Alexander and Jerome led the Cougars in rebounds with four each.
- The Cougars were 7-for-15 from 3-point range in the first-half.
