SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team was unable to provide an answer to University of Wisconsin-Superior forward Niya Wilson, falling to the Yellow Jackets by a score of 6-1 on Saturday. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 2-7-0 (2-2-0 UMAC) on the season.
Wilson assisted on the opening UW-Superior goal in the 17th minute, then tallied twice within 60 seconds as she found the back of the net in the 27th and 28th minutes to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Wilson completed her hat trick with a free kick in the 59th minute and added a fourth goal – her 12th of the season – in the 69th minute. UW-Superior added one more in the 77th minute. Minnesota Morris was able to get on the board in the 81st minute with
Monica Calderon notching her second of the season on an assist from
Maddie Schneider.
Bernadette Cienik made 12 saves in goal for the Cougars. Besides Calderon,
BeBe Say also had a shot in the match for UMN Morris.
Minnesota Morris returns home to Cougar Field to host Bethany Lutheran College on Oct. 6 starting at 4:30 p.m.
