SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team was unable to hang with the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Sunday, falling by a score of 9-0 to the Yellow Jackets. The Cougars will carry a record of 4-6 (2-4 UMAC) into the UMAC Tournament this week, with opponent, time, and location still to be determined.
Minnesota Morris played well at doubles, but still came up short against a talented UW-Superior squad.
Taiyo Larson and
Tanner Janorschke were victims of an 8-3 defeat at the No. 1 match. The closest the Cougars came to a point on Sunday came from the tandem of
Nick Garmen and
Paul Decker at No. 2 doubles where the Yellow Jackets came out on top, 8-6. An 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles put the Yellow Jackets firmly in command.
UW-Superior wrapped up the match by winning Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 6 singles all by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Janorschke dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 4 singles and
Jack Flicker, the lone senior on the men's tennis roster, lost by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
The seeding for the UMAC Tournament will be determined after all conference matchups are completed on Tuesday. Depending on outcomes around the conference, the Cougars will either host or travel for a UMAC quarterfinal on April 29.
