ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team stood toe-to-toe with Hamline University on Friday afternoon, playing 90 minutes of regulation and one full overtime session to a scoreless deadlock until the Pipers were awarded a penalty which was converted in the 103rd minute to nab a 1-0 win.

Hamline created more chances in the match, but Minnesota Morris was growing into the game as it progressed. The Pipers had six shots to two for the Cougars in the first half, but Lucas Harmon made three saves to keep it scoreless at intermission.

Harmon continued to shine in the second half with three more saves. Meanwhile, a shot from Carter Watkinson in the 83rd minute forced a save from Hamline's Luke Rimington to keep it 0-0.

Minnesota Morris had a 2-1 advantage on shots in the first overtime session. Chris Goers forced a save from Riminton in the 92nd minute and Carver Hammond also had a go at goal in the 96th minute that was off target. 

Things came to a sudden end in the 103rd minute when a clash of bodies on the edge of the 18-yard box resulted in a penalty for Hamline. Jared Garcia sent Harmon the wrong way to end it with a golden goal victory for the home side.

Harmon ended with seven saves on the day. Watkinson had two shots in the match, while Goers, Hammond, Tommy Ellis, and Mayson Palen all had one.

Minnesota Morris returns home to Cougar Field on Sept. 14 to host Saint John's University at 4 p.m.
