Concordia (MN) Dominates Second Half to Down Women’s Soccer

The Cougars had no answer for the Cobbers in the second half after a scoreless opening 45 minutes.

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team were unlucky to not take a lead into halftime at Concordia College (MN) on Friday afternoon, but the Cobbers came out in the second half and swarmed the Cougars with six goals to take home a 6-0 victory.

Concordia had the edge in total shots in the first half, but Minnesota Morris nearly took the lead on 29 minutes when Kim Peters hit the post. With six saves from Bernadette Cienik in the first half, the match went to the break tied at 0-0.

Things changed quickly in the second half as Lauren Tschider scored in the 46th minute to put the Cobbers ahead. Concordia added goals in the 60th, 62nd, and 64th minutes to put the match out of reach and then put two more past Cienik in the 71st and 79th minutes to close out the scoring.

Cienik ended with 11 saves on the day. Monica Calderon had two shots in the match, including one that forced a save from Breanna Nelson. Peters, Emma Giere, and BeBe Say also had shot attempts for the Cougars.

Minnesota Morris continues non-conference play back in Moorhead tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. kick-off for a neutral-site match with Nebraska Wesleyan University.
