STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team opened its match with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point strong, taking a 25-21 victory, but the Pointers were ultimately able to rebound on their home floor and come away with a 3-1 win over the Cougars (25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 15-25).
Minnesota Morris was able to pull ahead, 1-0, in the match thanks in large part to a sloppy start from UW-Stevens Point. The Cougars had only two attacking errors in the first set while the Pointers committed 12. With
Laura Wellbrock coming up with four kills in the first set, UMN Morris took the early lead.
From that point on, UW-Stevens Point ratcheted up the offense and committed only nine more attacking errors the rest of the match while hammering home 46 kills from the second set on. Ashley Kopp and Guresi Mena were particularly tough to stop as they each recorded 15 kills for the Pointers and UW-Stevens Point rebounded from that tough start to hit .258 as a team for the match.
Wellbrock was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend. She ended today's match with 14 kills and 11 digs.
Jenna Howden also had a big day with nine kills and 12 digs.
Kennedy Geller,
Maggie Jones, and
Madeline Monaco all had four kills apiece.
McKenzie Newton ended the match with 32 assists.

Sydney Eckhoff also hit double-digits with 11.
The Cougars are off until next Saturday when they return to Jim Gremmels Court to host a tri-match with Buena Vista University and Concordia College (MN).
