ST. PAUL, Minn. – University of Minnesota Morris senior midfielder
Carter Watkinson earned his first career UMAC Offensive Performer of the Week honor on Monday after leading the Cougars to a victory on Saturday over Bethany Lutheran College.
Bethany Lutheran came into the weekend atop the UMAC standings, but Minnesota Morris kept the match level in the opening 45 minutes and then Watkinson struck twice within four minutes to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. The first goal came in the 51st minute as Watkinson curled in a free kick over the wall. In the 54th minute, he doubled the Cougar advantage with a 25-yard laser from the right wing.
In both the victory over Bethany Lutheran and a tie earlier in the week with Martin Luther College, Watkinson ended with three shots, two of which were on target. With five goals on the year, Watkinson leads Minnesota Morris in that category.
The Cougars have three wins and three ties in their last six matches and will look to keep rolling on the road later this week with an Oct. 28 match at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and an Oct. 29 match at Northland College to close the regular season.
