MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team had three players named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team® on Tuesday. With this honor,
Maggie Jones,
Alyssa Ukestad, and
Laura Wellbrock are now on the ballot for Academic All-America® honors.
Jones, a senior from St. Paul, was the 2022 UMAC Co-Player of the Year and a First Team All-UMAC selection. A Secondary Education major with emphases in Social Science, Environmental Studies, and Native American Studies, Jones carried a 3.81 GPA into this Fall semester. On the court, she played in all 26 matches this season for Minnesota Morris and led the Cougars in kills per set (2.27), hitting percentage (.300), aces (29), and blocks per set (1.04).
Ukestad, a senior from Jamestown, N.D., joined Jones on the All-UMAC First Team and finished her career as the all-time leader in digs at Minnesota Morris with 2,071. She compiled a 3.60 GPA entering this semester with an Elementary Education major and led the squad in digs with 399 for an average of 4.59 per set that ranked third in the conference.
Wellbrock, a sophomore from Northfield, was Honorable Mention All-UMAC in 2022. Wellbrock entered the year with a 4.0 GPA in Biology. She was second on the team in total kills with 185 for the season (2.15 per set) and also averaged over two digs per set.
The 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.
