AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team had its three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 10-4 loss to SUNY Fredonia. The Cougars are now 4-4 on the season.
Fredonia starting pitcher Kenny Jaroszek sat Minnesota Morris down in order in the first three innings before the Blue Devils got on the board in the bottom of the third. A Cougar error gave Fredonia an opening to score on a fielder's choice groundout for a 1-0 lead.Â
The Cougars were again kept off the basepaths in the fourth inning and Fredonia opened up a 5-0 margin with four runs off of four hits in the bottom half of the frame.Â
A lead-off walk by
Tyler Carper finally put a Cougar aboard to start the fifth. From there, a Fredonia error and a walk loaded the bases.
Michael Nezerka then drove in the first Minnesota Morris run with a sacrifice fly to bring Carper home before
Logan Graves singled in
Ty Beasley.
Minnesota Morris committed a pair of errors in the bottom of the sixth and three Fredonia runs scored to make it 8-2. The score remained there until the top of the eighth when Graves,
Joe Pelle and
Alex Baumann loaded the bases with one away. The first Cougar run then scored on a passed ball and another run came home on a wild pitch to leave the score at 8-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth.Â
That would be as close as it would get on the day though. Fredonia tacked on two runs in its turn at the plate for a 10-4 lead and Minnesota Morris went down in order in the ninth to end it.
Baumann and Graves had the hits in the game for UMN Morris.
William Loesch took the loss for the Cougars.
Minnesota Morris closes out its Spring Break trip in Florida tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. (EDT) game against Rutgers-Newark at NorthEast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla.
