The Regals came away with a three-set win over the Cougars in the final non-conference match of the season on Saturday.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Cal Lutheran University in the final non-conference match of the season on Saturday, losing to the Regals by a score of 19-25, 17-25, 20-25. The Cougars head into UMAC play with an overall record of 3-8.

The first set was close much of the way, but six straight points from Cal Lutheran turned a 17-17 tie into a comfortable 23-17 lead. Minnesota Morris was finally able to earn the sideout, but couldn't complete the comeback.

The second set unfortunately followed a similar script. After the Cougars took an early two-point lead, UMN Morris and Cal Lutheran once again ended up tied at 17-17. This time around, the Regals rattled off eight straight points to earn the 2-0 edge in the match.

Another Regal run helped decide the third set. Knotted at 5-5, Cal Lutheran scored six in a row to take an 11-5 lead. Minnesota Morris got no closer than four points the rest of the way as the Regals completed the sweep.

Lydia Nash led Minnesota Morris with eight kills on the afternoon, while Maggie Jones added seven along with five blocks (one solo). McKenzie Newton finished with 20 assists. Alyssa Ukestad paced the Cougars with 12 digs. Jones was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend.
