ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris football team had a clean sweep of the weekly UMAC awards on Monday following a 49-19 win for the Cougars over Lawrence University to close out non-conference play.
Izayah Boss was the UMAC's Offensive Player of the Week, finishing the day with 15 carries for 180 yards and two touchdowns as well as two catches for 37 yards and another score. Boss' first touch of the day was a 50-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage and things just continued on from there. He also had an 87-yard touchdown run wiped out on a holding call. If that flag had not been thrown, Boss would have tied a school record with 267 rushing yards in a single game.
Carter Maurice was at the center of the defensive effort for Minnesota Morris and was named the UMAC Defensive Player of the Week. The Cougars pitched a shutout in the second half to pull away for the win and Maurice finished the day with seven tackles (four solo), including two sacks and a fumble recovery. The fumble recovery came at the Lawrence 4-yard line and set up a Minnesota Morris touchdown on the next play to increase the lead to 35-19.
Capping off each of those Minnesota Morris touchdowns was
Alex Happ, the UMAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Happ went 7-of-7 on extra point attempts, while averaging 54.0 yards on eight kickoffs and 26.0 yards on a pair of punts.
Minnesota Morris begins UMAC play on Oct. 1 with a trip to Fulton, Mo. to face Westminster College at 12 p.m.
